In the past few decades drums have more commonly been made with plastic or mylar heads as oppose to animal skin heads. For those of you with an animal skin heads you can often tighten a loose head by exposing it to heat such as holding it near a flame or open oven. If you do this be very carefull that you do not burn yourself or the drum. Another way to tighten a loose animal skin head is to pull the strings tighter(usually the head will be attached by string). If your animal skin is attached with little tacks then you must remove the tack, pull the skin tight and replace the tack. Plastic or mylar heads are fairly simple to tighten most will have bolts you can turn to tighten it and if they dont that means you need a new head. If your drum is inlaid be careful not to hit agains anything hard as it may break the seal on the inlay and cause it to fall off and in some cases it just keeps coming off after that
