In this book a well known composer Georges Lammam Explains the basics about the Maqamat. He gives the maqam (scale) and a song based on that maqam as an example. It comes with an accopanying casset so you can hear what it sounds like. I found this book very usefull. It helped me to understand more about the structure of arabic music. I would recomend this to those looking to learn more about middle eastern music. The only downside is that you need at least a basic understanding of how to read music.
