This book focuses on women and harems in the Turkish / Ottoman empire. It has a lot of good information on the social standing of women and what was expected of them. It talks about how the harems were structured and what went on in them and it says a little about dancing but it is not the focus of the book. The book then continues to tell about fashion and decor, followed by women who have influenced the history of the empire. Overall I thought it was a well reserched book with very beautifull pictures (I just love the one on the cover). I would recomend reading this book to anyone wantig to learn more about the history and culture of Turkey or the Middle East in general. I would also recomend it to anyone wanting to see some of the beautifull pictures painted of the Middle East.
